Disco Friend is excited to share the details of one of San Diego's finest mobile disc jockey sound systems. The following will explain the features and benefits of the Disco Friend sound system.
Disco Friend uses a four speaker sound system, including two "tops" (EAW FR129z's) and two "subs" (EAW FR250z's) for a total of 3000 watts of continuous power (not peak, continuous). Disco Friend uses a generous amount of power because it lower "listening levels" or moderate "dancefloor levels" the sound is much clearer, smoother and warm. Rarely is the Disco Friend sound system pushed to it's max; for most events it never gets passed a little over the middle. But it's nice to know the power is there for situations that require it. This system has been used successfully in spaces that range from private homes to large halls. Having a four speaker system with two tops and two subs also means that two speakers can concentrate on the mid-range and treble while two speakers can concentrate on the bass, which adds up to clear, punchy and crisp sound.
Disco Friend uses two amplifiers to power it's four speaker system. A QSC PLX3402 powers the top speakers while a Crown CE4000 powers the sub speakers (bass). Before this happens, a Rane crossover takes the music from the mixer and sends the midrange and treble portion of the music to the amplifier that powers the top speakers and at the same time sends the bass portion of the music to the amp that powers the sub speakers. This means that one amplifier and set of speakers can concentrate soley on the bass part of the music and another amplifier and set of speakers can concentrate soley on the midrange and treble part of the music. Again, this adds up to a superior sound and follows the basic "bi-amp" principle used in generating superior "night club style" sound.
The "DJ booth" is where the music and sound is generated using a mixer to control the levels of CD players, turntables, laptops and other devices. The Disco Friend DJ booth uses a digital mixer, the Denon X800, to control a total of four CD players, two in the dual-CD Velocity and two Denon DN5000S turntable CD players. The Denon DN5000S's look anc act like turntables with a spinning platter the all of the original turntable style controls. Four CD players means that Disco Friend can be more creative during music programming in having another type of song or a first dance ready to go at any minute. It also means that if a CD player were to fail, there are other professional CD players already integrated into the mix (not consumer walkmans that need to be hooked up).
The microphone is an often overlooked cornerstone of any mobile DJ sound system. This is where all announcements will be made, events conducted, and where speeches and toasts will take place. Disco Friend spared no expense in securing one of the industries most reliable and excellent sounding wireless mic system in the form of the Shure UC Beta87 system. The Beta87 mic is commonly seen on network television shows and major sporting events. As a second mic, Disco Friend relies on the Shure SM86, another great mic.
